    Practical Gifts for Christmas

This post contains affiliate links and if you click on a link I my receive a commission. Thank you! Here is why Christmas won’t be that exciting with most likely six kids A: On Thanksgiving you should have seen us try to cram eight people in the mini-van when three of the eight required car seats, and B: a change in nap times, eating, schedules, and gifts can turn my sweet kids into little hellions in a minute. But none the less it’s coming and here our my thoughts on gifts this year.  If you are like me the more kids you have the more “stuff” you accumulate, so when…

You Might be A Foster Mom If

Your response to someone in public asking, “Are these are ALL your kids?” is “It’s Complicated.” You know your county attorney and surrounding county attorney’s by first name and DHS is on your “favorites” call list. You have no fear of weird acronyms and know what they stand for, but when talking in acronyms with non-foster parents you get lots of stares. Any takers on GAL, PS-MAPP, or TPR? You can’t answer questions about your life or kids because over 100% of its confidential information. You know what trauma-informed means. You have more appointments on your calendar for therapy, DHS meetings, licensing worker visits, court hearings, and doctor visits in…

    S*** Happens-Episode 2

Episode 2 is brought to you by foster kids with food issues. And all foster parents said……Amen. At work I took out my muffin to eat and realized that someone had dug from the top into the center of the muffin and carved a nice crater in my bran muffin. A cupcake thief can be found by watching the suspected child brush their teeth especially when the cupcakes had chocolate frosting. My perfect pumpkin desert was ruined by a toddler and a ten-year old in less than two minutes. I knew it was the toddler who initiated the act, because there were two strategically placed chairs. One by the counter…

How do I have Energy for Fitness?

I get asked a lot how I have energy for fitness when I work full-time, have four kids (plus currently two foster kids), and a blog. One time when I was asked this I gave a terrible answer, “Diet Mt. Dew,” because it’s the only thing I could think of off the top of my head! So I have pondered this a bit ever since then. Here are my thoughts on how I do have energy for it all. Disclaimer: I don’t always, I am human! But here are a few why’s and how’s. First of all, I probably do NOT get as much sleep as you. There has to…

    Best Humorous Baby Gift

I am pretty sure that I am a diaper extraordinaire, although my child care providers might beat me in a diaper changing contest. On September 1, 2017, my first biological kid, Jett was born just after adoption of our two-year old, Silas. Twenty four days later, September 25, 2017, Silas’s biological sister came to our house as our foster child. She is nine months older than Jett. For about five months we had three kids under three and ALL three in diapers. After that I spent another six months changing three kids in diapers. It was a disaster diaper-wise most days. I feel bad for the garbage man when he…

    S*** Happens-Episode 1

S*** Happens. It’s that simple. I am sure you would love to be a fly on our wall these days. When I get asked, “How is it going?” I hardly know where to start or END! Right now I am totally intrigued by the new kids in my house and by my littles that are growing so fast. Here is what the past week looked like. This post contains affiliate links and if you click on them I may receive a commission. Baby Jett, as we call him, mastered his walking and is pretty proud of himself. One dinner roll ended up in the living room, two plates of…

    I Don’t Make Excuses or Do I?

I almost made myself into a liar this week. A few days ago, I had an Instagram post (Follow me at https://www.instagram.com/f.a.bmamalife/ ) that said “When you quit making excuses you WILL conquer.” The thing about blogging and making bold statements is that sometimes you actually have to live up to your words. I guess you don’t have to practice what you preach, but I am not okay with that. A day after I made my bold statement that I rarely make excuses I got a call. It is one of those calls that I answered figuring it wasn’t a big deal. I was WRONG, our licensing worker told me of…

    My Little Bass Pro

This article contains affiliate links and if you use them and purchase items I may receive a commission. Thank you for supporting our foster journey. My husband loves to fish. I HATE fishing. I can’t sit still long enough to ever catch a fish. The one time I went with him I got stuck in the weeds, snagged a line, lost a lure, and cast a line only once. Fishing is the biggest argument creator at our house. For me personally, fishing is a waste of time and money. Some of you might say, “How dare you say something like that?” It’s true….fishing makes me CRABBY because my husband is…

    This is Foster Care

Foster care and I have a LOVE hate relationship. There are so many things that drive me CRAZY and make me want to quit. But there are so many events that have molded and shaped me as I person that I don’t regret being a foster mom. We dove straight in and NEVER questioned ourselves on whether it was for us or not. Maybe the smart thing would have been thinking it through, but why do that…..seriously. I get numerous questions about foster care and realize that most of the world is oblivious to how it works. So This IS FOSTER CARE, in a small nutshell. Foster care is a…

    When Olga Calls………

When Olga calls, it’s not a convenient time. When Olga calls, my hearts turns to mush and I can’t say NO. When Olga calls, I say “yes” to a stranger in my house.  When Olga calls, I say “yes” to things that are on the edge of my capabilities. When Olga calls, I have about five minutes to decide if I alter the path of my life. Olga has the nicest Southern African-American woman voice ever.  She is one of those people who you just hope call because they are just down right fun to talk to. I have not met Olga and for all I know she may be…
